During our winter holidats, we used to travel more often from Rezina to Ribnita to see my husband’s relatives.
Even if we are the citizens of the same village, each time, we pay money to go to our parents or relatives in the localities from the left bank of the Nistru River.
We sit in our car with the child in our arms and we were waiting for my husband to pay the migration tax at the window of the migration services at the so-called Customs between the two neighbouring towns. The cross-border tax for the Moldovan citizens from Moldova to Transdniester is nearly 8 Lei (80-90 cents). With out this ticket You will pay ten times more tham initial tax.
My husband is most of all revolted about the fact that our family pays the total amount of 2$ each time when we go to Rabnita to see his mother, our grandmother or sister. Sometimes, my husband quarrels with the “PASPORTISTII” (passport check officers) from the customs when we go to pay the tax, while I am watching him everytime… you never know what happens…
Finally, after more than 20-30 minutes of wait at the “customs”, we arrived to Rabnita…
Tiraspol administration announce that beginning with January 1st 2008, these taxes will be cancelled, but such declarations have been made for years and nothing was done in this context.
